Meta Communities
I am reposting a section for the invitation to join Thirdness, a meta community started in February 2020; I have written extensively about it and my learnings from it.
As I am considering a workshop specifically on starting a meta-community, I wanted to share clippings from the original invite.
This connects to a recent curiosity about communities of practice that (1) don’t focus on production or (2) share a finish line.
From An Invitation to Join Thirdness, 2020
Goal
The goal is to write and rewrite, to practice and rehearse,
to move from knowledge to wisdom,
to get to know one’s context
Values
Engagement in ambiguity
Reflection and articulation
Open-mindedness
Looking at everything sideways
Generosity
Benefits
Support
Open generous discussion
A Mirror
This should feel like a rehearsal room for people who speak publicly about their opinions and interests.
Who is it For?
Writers
Consultants
Educators
Community leaders
Process and organizational designers
Anyone with a creative surplus
Are you aware of any such spaces? I am actively seeking communities that don’t ask people to fit in.
